This site is a live demo site and so content will alter over time. When we started creating iPhone pages, we had a real problem locating good content we could learn from. We ended up using a web-kit to help develop pages quickly and have found that extremely useful.
This site mimics the look of a web-app from the phone and so when you move from a native "app" into these pages - its hard to tell. The tri-button and the top bar are all iPhone look and feel. You can also see buttons, selectors and input boxes just like the iPhone apps.
We have made a couple of demo pages here to look at which show the Routing capability and also the coding you can do within a web-app. In the demo for Site bookings (with the site selector logic included).
We were asked
recently about the difference between a web for mobile page and the web-kit.
Its a difficult distinction because webpage can all be used in safari of course.
However I think the key difference for us would be the look, styling and clean navigation. Its very easy to
use the web-kit styled pages to move around - just like an app. Mobile web pages are usually a lot more clunky
and have odd things happening on them, boxes blocked or selectors in the wrong places.
I think web-kit pages are very easy for people not used to web pages on a mobile to use, for results and to carry
out their business. Its just another standard to make things easier to use, and follows the in app style.
We do also of course develop "native" iPhone apps - however these typically require a more significant investment in time and coding. We suspect that the future will move more towards the Android model with a merging of web kits and app. development. Currently Android devices don't hold the standard nature of device that is so attractive for the iPhone. This will change as people buy the new devices and we will see a huge opening of the mobile sector.
